NSU Motorcycles in Sweden:
Samma sida fast på svenska

Figures & Statistics   Made or modified in Sweden  Swedish "Quicklies"

Together with Mats Olofsson have I bought the registation figures for NSU Motorcyles in Sweden. There are 715 NSU Motorcycles on license plates, rangeing from a 1901 Neckarsulmer to 1968 Pretis Maxi´s, in Sweden. The types and numbers are presented below

Again the Swedish system of registrating cars and motorcycles (anything over 50cc and 2hp), where a vehicle has the same licence number throughout it´s life makes it fairly easy to keep track of them. There is no telling in which state these motorcycles are in, but as with the cars, if someone is interested enough to keep them registerred there ought to be some substance.

Sources: My old swedish magazines, i.e: Classic Motor Magasin, Signalhornet, Nostalgia+ Motor Historiskt Magasin. I also consulted "Die NSU- Story", an excellent book by Peter Schneider, regarding possible motors for the alleged Motorcycles.

Here are registration figures on some of the "swedish NSU:s"that are listed as NSU. There are probably many more but they are hard to find as they are listed under "others"

MOPEDS:
There were also some mopeds produced in Sweden that had NSU quickly motors. I know of:
Kärnan, Kärnans Cykelfabrik, Helsingborg, Possibly only used Quickly motor 1956
Monark M24, Varberg, "Monarped"(1955-59? photo below)

And these are identical, except colours, to Monarped:
Maraton, J.B. Benson, Eskilstuna?, Possibly only 1956
Örnen, (the eagle) John Bengtsson, Malmö, Possibly only 1956
Speed, I don´t know who stands as "Manufacturer" but Speed was sold  at Konsum, the consumer owned Cooperation´s stores, probably only 1956-57?
Speed, a Monarped with Quickly motor

The reason for these strange examples of "lable- engineering" is as I understand it, that several small bicycle- and moped factories were merged with the larger Monark-Crescent Company during the early- and mid fifties. But selling them this way, with local brands so to speak, they thought that they could keep the customers easier, rather than introducing an unknown brand.

If anyone knows of more mopeds and/ or details please drop me a mail.
